We decided to begin collaborative stories, where little bits of information are pulled from each campus. The first will be the student reaction to mandatory fees for on-campus facilities that will be closed in the fall. Madalyn Amato will be leading that one, so dm here in the Slack if you want your campus’ perspective in it.
The second of those stories will be CSU-wide policing stories. Madalyn will also be leading that collaboration.
We have some other stories, outlined in the content budget Gary suggested we use. If your paper is working on a story about the budget cuts, fall reopening or Covid cases in the dorms, drop your name in the budget.
If you want to lead a collaborative story, reach out to any of us on the Slack.
We’re going to get all of the stories lined up and ready by Sundays so you will be able to decide what to publish at your paper throughout the week, over the weekend.
We are starting a partnership with CalMatters that includes the editors selecting stories that don’t involve higher education, and allowing you to republish them. This includes science and political reporting, and this decision was made by a plurality vote at the meeting. The stories we select will be in the content budget, and most likely additional editions of this newsletter.
The partnership also will lead to paid freelance experiences and free journalism training for you. Join the slack to keep involved.
Julie Patel Liss from the University Times will be working on a similar partnership with EdSource.
