How has your campus been covering coronavirus? How is your campus reacting to it? What precautionary measures are being taken by the university and what are students talking about?
I wanted to create a coronavirus edition with stories from all over the system, but there are too many to include, so it would be best if we crowd-source it in this manner.
Update: All Cal Poly classes will be online next quarter and graduation is postponed. Feels like a sci fi movie honestly. Students can get refunds for housing and dining plans if they decide to go home spring quarter, off-campus students are asking if they can break their leases. Faculty who teach labs are struggling with how to teach their courses online - we explore that a bit in this story: https://mustangnews.net/learn-by-doing-it-online-professors-react-to-springs-virtual-classes/. Students are concerned for how their classes will look online next quarter, and lots have said that they are sad to have their quarter cut short – especially seniors. We have a story on that here: https://mustangnews.net/this-is-absolutely-insane-students-left-worried-and-confused-about-what-spring-quarter-will-hold/. We're still trying to figure out how many students don't have access to wifi and computers, and how the university will provide that to students who need it.
We won't be having any more in-person meetings for the rest of the semester. Campus and student housing is still open but the school is providing housing/meal refunds to people who leave early, so a lot of people are starting to move home. Print production is being suspended for the rest of the semester following next Wednesday's issue.
We added a coronavirus tab to our website. Coverage has been quite difficult because campus offices have been so overwhelmed with requests that they seem to have virtually no time to handle our requests (or so they claim).
