CSU Board of Trustees stories
The Board of Trustees, which oversees the CSU, is meeting Jan. 26. Among the agenda:
Compensation for the interim executive vice chancellor for academic and student affairs of the California State University
Discussion of the annual donor support report, also published online. This is a good record of all money raised by each campus over the past three years, ending in June 2020. The CSU raised the most money in its history, with only 2 percent given to be used at the university’s discretion and the rest earmarked for certain projects decided by the donor
Discuss sponsoring a bill that would increase state support to mental health services on campus
Deciding the CSU’s priorities for the next two years, with the following listed as the top three:
Support and protect Dreamers, including by immediately restoring Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) protections
Secure necessary federal relief and flexibilities for institutions and students in response to the COVID-19 pandemic
Invest in student success by significantly increasing the maximum Pell Grant and restoring annual cost-of-living increases to the program
An information agenda explaining loans made by Cal State Sacramento’s University Enterprises and Cal State San Francisco’s UCorp. These loans are the first to be made outside the CSU’s established debt programs after a November decision by the CSU Board of Trustees to allow these types of loans due to financial pressure cause by the pandemic
Finalizing an agreement to outsource Cal State Fresno’s plant operations
Discussion of the Board’s search for public-private partnerships to save money for CSU campuses, including the multi-CSU pouring rights with Coca Cola started last year which they say gives $6.8 million to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo over ten years, mostly through cash, and which will be expanded to Stanislaus, East Bay and possibly Pomona. These activities have provided $1 million yearly to the CSU, the agenda claims. Other partnerships include San Diego’s Mission Valley Stadium, a hotel at Cal State Northridge, and the Football Club at Los Angeles
The annual campus fee report:
Discussion of the proposed budget’s impact on the CSU
Discussion of the effectiveness of the Associate Degree for Transfer program for transfer students, with transfer numbers for each university:
