Cal State Fullerton junior infielder Daisy Munoz was named the Big West’s softball field player of the week on Monday — her second time winning the award. She earned the honor with her play last week against the University of Pennsylvania and Boston University, along with the split tournament with Long Beach State.
Against Pennsylvania on March 8, Munoz scored for her team during the bottom of the first off of a single RBI from sophomore infielder Jessi Alcala during the team’s 8-0 win.
In the bottom of the first inning against Nebraska on March 11, Munoz singled a shortstop RBI to allow sophomore infielder Hannah Becerra to score the Titans’ only run of the contest as they lost, 3-1.
Against Iowa State on March 12, Munoz recorded two RBIs that came off a home run. The run came in the bottom of the first inning as she homered to left field, which led sophomore outfielder Megan Degadillo to score the lone run for Fullerton in a 3-1 loss.
Munoz is one of the Titans’ top-performing players this season.
Munoz currently has a batting average of .366 and she’s batted three home runs, tying her with Deshea Hill for the second-most on the team.
While the losses were highlighted by strong performances by Munoz, she and the rest of the team have had plenty of wins throughout the season.
Against Grand Canyon University on Feb.19, Munoz slammed a home run in top of the fifth inning and scored the last run for the Titans in their 7-4 win. She finished the contest with two runs and an RBI.
In CSUF’s dominant 13-0 win against Dixie State on Feb. 11, Munoz was sensational. In the bottom of the first inning, she batted a left field home run that resulted in a double RBI and led Alexa Neil to score a run in the bottom of the first inning.
Munoz, later in the bottom of the second inning hit a single which resulted in Becerra scoring a run for the Titans.
The Titans will begin conference play in a four-game series against UC Davis at La Rue Field on March 19-20.
