I am stepping back from the wire and passing it onto the next generation of CSU reporters. Here are the minutes from our first meeting.
Roll Call

Sarah Han—The Poly Post
Madalyn Amato—Daily 49er
David Sjostedt—Golden Gate Xpress

The Sundial couldn’t make it today due to coronavirus coverage
Madeliene Beck—The State Hornet
Sarah Bennett of Santa Ana College to explore creating a community college wire
Explanation of the wire
Purpose to share sports and Board of Trustees photos, CSU stories, opinions and interviews
We’ve all had stories that we thought should be shared across the system
State audits, state data, state budgets, changing educational practices, CSU contracts with outside companies
All the stuff we would love to cover all the time, but can’t or that otherwise slips through our cracks, but not other CSU papers’
Issues
Coronavirus halted a lot of momentum and stories
Limited at first to the CSUs at ACP
I was wiring all the stories myself
SubStack publishing
Showed how publishing works. Will continue publishing in the morning

Presubmitted suggestions:
Jack Molmud: It can start with a good twitter game for connecting with more CSU student journalists. Besides that, I think as CSU student newsrooms evolve, incorporating more shared files such as photos and videos over dropbox or a more secure platform would be a great project for a lot of collaborative multimedia sections. I don't know how much legwork you do to find stories through each CSU newspaper, but I would try to look for sharable content myself in addition to letting editors offer stories to the wire.
Jadyn Brandt: Increasing the number of CSUs who participate and have events/meetings to grow collaboration among student journalists
Sarah Han: It can work on better promoting its website and improving site organization.
Stephanie Zappelli: I think it would be cool if all of the participants could zoom once a month to discuss trends in the CSU and what we should all be covering, it would be helpful and also fun to see everyone :)
Madalyn Amato: More multimedia content
Discussion:
We will work toward better multimedia coverage using the shared Google Drive link.
Jack, Madeliene, Madalyn, and Jadyn will be the Cal State Student Wire editors. An editor will schedule the wires and organize meetings and coverage. They will also maintain relations with different papers. More editors are possible. The trade-off between me as editor and the new editors is happening this week and the next, since I am almost out of school.
We will be more active in the Slack posted above.
We will be having monthly meetings like this over summer, then twice a month once school starts again. Madeliene will be organizing the next meeting.
I’m sorry I’ll be leaving this project behind, but I’m glad we as CSU reporters have such interest in it. I think these new editors will do a great job, and I look forward to watching their work.
