Meeting tomorrow

Hi all,

We’re having an end-of-the-year/beginning of the 2021-2022 editorial leadership meeting tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. The Zoom link and a calendar invite are in the Slack. If you’re not in the Slack, dm or message us for a link to both. This is the only time in the two-week period that the respondents to the when2meet could all meet at.

Reporters, editors and advisors are all invited to the meeting. The meeting should be 45 minutes long.

Agenda:

1. Roll call/introductions

2. Old business

   1. Fill out the survey if you have not already done so

   2. If you have a donation link—share it

   3. If you haven’t seen either of these: Voice of America put together a great video package about us, and the Nieman Lab wrote an article about us

3. New business

   1. Recapping what the Wire has done this last year and congratulating the graduating staff

   2. Establishing what the Wire does and what your generation of editors and writers want from it

      1. A forum for opportunities with CalMatters, the Education Writers Association, professional organizations and each other’s shared trainings

      2. Shared content

      3. Greater awareness of CSU-wide stories

      4. What do you need?

      5. How do you want to contribute?

      6. Do any of you want to take a more active role?

         1. Past student editors have assigned stories specifically for republication, ran/set up the Twitter, designed our logo, organized meetings

         2. We can use people for handling multimedia, working on system-wide data, designing a cover photo, monitoring the Slack feed, developing a system-wide beat, working on outreach to other CSU papers, monitoring awards/student journalism opportunities or anything else you think could be useful

   3. Introducing the new automated workflow

      1. Still will manually find some stories—but expecting to mostly automate republication distribution

   4. Sports coverage next year: photo sharing

As a reminder: today, Tuesday, a state educational board is holding an exclusive student media presser about their report proposing changes to the CSU and other educational institutions. Their report is also being discussed in the CSU Board of Trustees Committee on Educational Policy, Tuesday, May 18, at 3:15 p.m.
