Today at noon: chancellor-student town hall
This back to school town hall with Chancellor White today is brought by CalMatters and moderated by student-journalists involved in the CSU Wire.
This online post has corrected Marisa Martinez’s position. She is the digital editor, not editor-in-chief, of University Times.
What will classes be like in the fall at CSU campuses? Chancellor Timothy P. White answers your questions during a CalMatters discussion.
About this Event
CSU students: Got questions about what college will look like this fall? Here’s your chance to get answers from Chancellor Timothy P. White.
Join us for a virtual discussion on how CSU campuses are addressing your concerns during the pandemic, from the cost of tuition to remote learning.
We’d love to hear from you before the conversation starts so we can organize the town hall around your questions and comments. If you’re a future or current CSU student — or an interested parent — register today and submit your questions and comments here.
The discussion will be moderated by CalMatters College Journalism Network Editor Felicia Mello, and Marisa Martinez, digital editor of University Times, Cal State LA's student newspaper. The first hour will be panel discussion, followed by a half hour in topic-focused breakout rooms.
Breakout rooms:
- Financial aid/basic needs: This breakout session will talk about how financial aid offices and basic needs centers are working to support CSU students during COVID-19. It will also discuss COVID-19’s impact on students’ physical and financial health. The discussion will be moderated by Madalyn Amato, editor of the Daily 49er at Long Beach State.
- Covid safety: This session features a panel of campus representatives who will discuss how their institutions are sanitizing and redesigning classrooms in order to keep students and staff safe. You'll also hear from a representative of a campus health center who can talk about COVID testing and how students can access health services remotely. The discussion will be moderated by Stephanie Zappelli, news editor of the Mustang News at Cal Poly SLO.
- Remote learning: This breakout session will discuss how the CSU system worked with faculty over the summer to improve the virtual learning experience, how individual campuses are helping students access technology and the Internet, and how the shift to remote learning might change higher education even after in-person instruction resumes. The discussion will be moderated by Kimberly Morales, editor of The Orion at Chico State.
This event is sponsored by the College Futures Foundation and Walter S. Johnson Foundation.
